Your favorite place to be on Thanksgiving is probably the couch, but you may want to think twice before lounging all day and then eating such a large meal. Reducing your portion sizes can help you have a healthier Thanksgiving, but you will still want to burn off some of those excess calories with a little exercise. Here are a few ideas that can help you stay active even on one of the laziest days of the year.

Don’t abandon fitness while traveling

If you travel for Thanksgiving, it can be easy to put your workout on hold. However, there are so many ways that you can work out with simple body weight exercises that will fire up your muscles and help you burn some calories. Side plank rotations, squat jumps, and push-ups are all great ways to work out, no matter where you stay on Thanksgiving. Plus, you’ll only need about 10 minutes to fit in some serious calorie burning.

Sign up for a Thanksgiving 5K

Most cities have Turkey Trot 5 and 10K races that are ideal for the whole family. Held in the morning on Thanksgiving, these events welcome runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels to get moving before dinner is on the table.

Exercise in front of the television

For many people, watching football is an essential component of Thanksgiving, but there is no rule that you have to watch from the couch. You might set up an exercise bike in front of the TV or keep some free weights handy to make your television habits a little more beneficial. You could also toss the ball around yourself and get a football game going in the yard with the family early in the day or after dinner is over.
