4 tricks for a healthy travel diet

When you pair the stress of traveling with the free spirited attitude of vacation, it is easy to get carried away and abandon your healthy eating habits. Still, traveling does not have to mean that you are on vacation from good health. Simply follow the smart eating guidelines listed below.

1. Bring snacks from home

On the road or on a plane, it is common to have the urge to snack. Instead of relying on greasy spoon fare at roadside stops or salty airplane snacks to satisfy your cravings, you might bring along your own healthy food options. Dried fruit, nuts, homemade granola, and baked chips are all great, non-perishable snack choices that travel well.

2. Stock up on bottled water

If you keep yourself hydrated, you will not have false sensations of hunger that might lead you to excess snacking while you are traveling. With a case of bottled water in the car or at your hotel room, you do not have to worry about paying high prices for bottled water at tourist destinations.

3. Avoid skipping meals

If your hotel offers breakfast, then take advantage of this meal to give yourself a wholesome start for the day. When breakfast is not included in your lodging, start the day with some fruit or cereal to get a quick, inexpensive bite to eat that will help you avoid overdoing it at lunchtime.

4. Save calories for special meals

When you are on vacation, it is okay to splurge on a heavier meal that allows you to sample some local fare. Save room for the occasion by eating healthier foods throughout the day knowing that you will indulge later on. With these simple tricks, you can feel energized and ready to take on all the adventures of your trip without the unwanted souvenir of vacation weight gain.
