Technology is changing the way doctors are treating patients. Now, you can be diagnosed and treated over the computer in a matter of minutes.

It is all a part of telemedicine, a virtual way to talk to a doctor from the comfort of your own home.

“We are using technology to reach those patients, not only who may not be able to come to the doctor for physical reasons, but also because of location,” said Dr. Jelani Ingram, of www.MeMD.me.

The Lehigh Valley Health Network has been using this technology for a few years now within the hospitals, using webcams to connect patients with specialists all over the region.

However, now private companies like www.MeMD.me are making it possible for you to see a doctor from anywhere you may be, using a system pretty similar to Skype.

All you have to do is log on to the site, pay the $50 fee (insurance is not accepted), and then provide some information about your medical history. Then the doctor arrives, on your screen.

MeMD’s virtual doctors can write you a prescription that is electronically sent to your closest pharmacy. The company’s website says their doctors, who are all licensed and board certified, can treat dozens of different conditions from the other side of the computer.
