Stress-Busting Workouts

Exercise is a natural medicine for your body. It can make you feel good in a variety of ways (thanks endorphins!) and it’s an easy way to combat stress. Just about any type of exercise can be beneficial for fighting stress, but some will be optimally effective to help you just let go and feel better.

Upper Body Workouts

If stressful days lead to tension in your neck, upper back and shoulders, you might focus more attention on these areas when you work out. Lift weights to target these spots or try out some yoga poses that employ these muscle groups. Arm balances are a great place to focus if you want to release that stress in the muscles and build strength.

Core-Charging Moves

A strong core supports all muscle movement, promotes good posture, and even encourages better breathing. With moves that target the core, such as twists, crunches, and leg lifts, you can feel the burn as you charge up the muscles in your abdomen, spine, and hips. Added bonus – you’ll feel more powerful as you stand taller after toning this area.

Strenuous Cardio

Have you ever noticed how stress can make you feel energized? Unfortunately, that energy tends to be negatively charged. Spin it into something positive with a run or challenging bike ride. Harder cardio can be great for pumping up the endorphins and releasing the negativity behind your stress energy.

Of course, participating in a workout program that isn’t right for you will only add to your stress. To be sure you’re on the right track, check in with your doctor or speak with a MeMD provider, who is available around the clock – no appointment necessary!
