You can ditch your gym membership for the summer and take advantage of the great weather with backyard workouts that will help your whole family work up a sweat. Here’s a quick look at three great exercise routines to take to your backyard.

Trampoline jumping

Without a huge investment, you can get the ultimate cardio tool for your backyard. 10 minutes of jumping on the trampoline will burn between 50 and 100 calories, depending on how fast you jump. Just remember that only one person should jump at once, and children should always have supervision.

Boot camp workouts

Small kids may not be up for the full intensity of a boot camp workout, but they can do lunges, squats, push-ups, and sit-ups with you as you work through speed drills with these moves. Between sets on your workout mat, sprint around the yard or jump rope for one minute. Even a 15-minute boot camp three to four nights a week can whip you into shape and have you looking more toned.

Outdoor yoga

Yoga is both an energizing workout for adults and a great way for kids to build strength and coordination. Lay yoga mats on the grass or the patio for beautiful surroundings to enjoy as you move through poses. Regardless of how intense you make your yoga workout, remember to breathe steadily through your nose with every pose.

There’s no reason not to work out this summer with such a wide range of easy moves to use in your own backyard. Get moving and enjoy better health for the season (along with a body you won’t mind showing off in a swimsuit!)
