If you don’t want to be a victim of holiday weight gain this year, you should identify the specific triggers that slow down your workout routine and cause you to overindulge. Some common holiday weight management obstacles are listed below to help you see where you may be getting derailed.
Festive snacks and sweets
Every office has someone who brings in baked goods, candies, or other not-so-healthy options. If you get in the habit of unhealthy snacking, you may not have the motivation to get out and exercise later on. You can resist these temptations by bringing in your own healthy snacks and steering clear of the conference room or kitchen where these snacks are typically lurking.
New Year’s procrastination
Many people will put off exercise and healthy eating with the excuse that they will start their diet with the New Year. However, if you start early and get on the right track with your daily habits now, your New Year’s resolution will seem much more achievable when January 1st arrives.
Increased stress
Under emotional and physical stress, you might be tempted to reach for a cocktail, candy bar, or cigarette. Instead of finding stress relief in these unhealthy vices, you can stay fit by going to the gym to work out your stress. You might also find that an extra hour of sleep each night is just what you need to stay in shape and keep your immune system strong during flu season.
