Are you suffering from the flu and hoping for a speedy recovery? What you eat and drink can impact flu prevention, ease symptoms and speed up recovery.
Here are a few flu-fighting foods to try when you begin to feel sick:
Ginger
Add freshly grated ginger to warm water to create a ginger tea. Ginger may help to fight inflammation and also eases symptoms like nausea and stomach ache.
All Fruit Popsicles
Popsicles with 100% real fruit can get you the vitamins and hydration you need while easing sore throat symptoms.
Chicken Soup or Clear Broth
Grandma was right! Chicken soup can help expel mucus more quickly and may have an anti-inflammatory effect that eases upper respiratory symptoms. If you do not have a regular appetite, then try sipping clear broth instead.
Fresh Garlic
Garlic contains sulfuric compounds that can help fight bacteria and infections. Cook with two fresh garlic cloves daily to help boost your immune response. You can even add garlic to your soups!
Green Tea
What can’t this tea do? Green tea has numerous health benefits including antiviral properties that can prevent or help fight infections. Sip green tea while you’re sick with flu to stay hydrated and boost your body’s immune response
Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate with 70% or higher cocoa contains antioxidants known to fight flu. Limit yourself to about 1/4 ounce daily to minimize sugar intake, as too much sugar can suppress your immune response.
