Exercising while you are on vacation doesn’t have to be a chore, nor should it be. If you spend the money to travel away from home and get a hotel room, the last thing you want to do is stay cooped up in the gym! Ditch the fitness center and try out these more adventurous forms of exercise instead.

Paddle boarding

Stand-up paddle boarding is an intense whole-body workout that you will definitely feel the next day. You can enjoy the waves on the water as you use your upper body to paddle and your lower body to balance, burning at least 120 calories every 30 minutes. When the waves are stronger, you will burn even more calories.

White water rafting

If you’re spending time canyoneering near rough water, white water rafting is a thrilling way to spend the day burning calories. On average, white water rafting burns 115 calories every half hour, and it can take you to places you might not ever see traveling by foot or car.

Trail running

Sometimes the biggest problem with running is getting bored of your surroundings, which can be a hard excuse to use when you are vacationing away from home. Take advantage of local parks or natural trails in your area, and enjoy a run that lets you explore on your feet! Be sure to stay prepared when you travel – map your route, and keep a pair of running shoes handy so that you can burn a quick 300 calories in about 30 minutes.

Beach volleyball

To get a whole group involved in your vacation workout, start a game of beach volleyball – not only will you have fun and possibly make new friends, you can work off a cool 200 to 300 calories over the course of a match. Moving through the beach sand makes this an even more intense workout that really tones your muscles.

No matter how you choose to do it, you should stay active while on vacation. Cutting down on your workout routine can make getting back to the gym when you return from all that R&R much more challenging.
